Our Story
Tyler started HIGHFILL with the intention of building a responsive, client-focused engineering consulting firm. He had worked for other firms in the past, but he felt like something was missing. Water and wastewater engineers work to ensure you do not have to think about what happens when you turn on the sink or flush the toilet--they work to ensure you can trust the water you drink and use is safe. The job is inherently rooted in service to communities and their people, and in building the firm, Tyler started hiring people who also found the service aspect to be instrumental for success.
2004 was HIGHFILL's first year, and in 2005, Tyler brought on Ray, who would serve at the Vice President of Marketing. The following year, the pair hired the company's first employee, Paul. By 2006, we had offices in Cary and Wilmington, North Carolina, and we kept growing, adding more office locations and employees as the years passed. Tyler brought on Chris in 2014 as the Vice President of Operations, and shortly after, we opened our third office in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. While Winston-Salem was our third office location, WSFC Utilities was our first client back when it was all getting started. Next, we opened our first South Carolina office in Columbia, and most recently, in 2022, we staffed an office in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Over the years, from across the Carolinas, we have come together for river cleanups, Christmas parties, and 5k races, and we have all committed to keeping service at the center of everything we do. We are specialists in improving water and wastewater infrastructure because we care about making communities cleaner, healthier, and better overall. We are proud of the success we have had, and we are excited for the future. We hope you will be part of it.
