WATER/WASTEWATER CONSTRUCTION OBSERVER
LOCATION: Wilmington, NC
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Successful candidate will observe construction of water, wastewater, and general civil engineering projects which typically include collection and distribution pipelines, pump stations, industrial facilities, and environmental compliance. Typical activities include:
Evaluating substantial compliance of the work with plans, specifications, permits, and approved submittals.
Measuring work quantities for review of pay estimate requests.
Preparing daily field reports.
Attending construction progress meetings.
Providing witness and approvals during testing operations.
Reviewing Construction Record Drawings
Assisting the Engineer with various aspects of construction contract administration.
AutoCAD experience is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS: 2+ years of construction observation experience, more experience preferred, good communication skills required. Degrees or coursework in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management preferred but not required.
While degrees ARE NOT required for this position, candidates with a BS in Civil, Construction, or Environmental Engineering with an EIT certification or NC PE license will be considered.
Should a PE or EIT candidate be selected, the initial field position may transition into an office engineering position following completion of imminent construction projects. Our junior-level engineering staff are exposed to a wide range of civil engineering project activities which provide motivated staff a space to grow professionally in their careers, with the support of an experienced staff in a team-focused organization.
Capable of moderate lifting (generally 25 pounds or less)
Capable of operating a motor vehicle, must have valid driver license
Work hours will typically be 40 hours per week, but overtime will be necessary at times. Flexibility is expected to work around inclement weather with the contractor’s schedule.
The successful candidate will be hired as contract labor for the duration of the construction observation work. The initial construction project is scheduled for 10 months.
